China Glaze Cirque Du Soleil: Worlds Away Collection Swatches and Review!

Good afternoon my fellow lacquered lovers!  Happy Friday!  I apologize for the lack of posts lately but I've been swatching up a storm and am back on track!  So for today, I wanted to show you an amazing new collection that I learned about at Cosmoprof back in July but wasn't allowed to share until now!

China Glaze has released a new 12 shade collection with the new 3D movie Cirque Du Soleil: World's Away.  I've been to a few Cirque Du Soleil shows and these bright colors and glitters are definitely in line with the whimsical attitude behind their shows!  Now, without further ado, on to the polish!

Above:  2 coats of China Glaze Def Defying

Def Defying is a bright chartreuse cream nail polish.  I just love the word chartreuse!  These colors can look a little weird on me since I have a lot of yellow to my skin but surprisingly, this one wasn't too bad!  The formula was rather thick so I found it best to apply two thin coats and allow some time in between to dry so you don't get dragging.

Above:  3 coats of Running in Circles

Running in Circles was a real stand out in this collection for me!  It looks like tiny pieces of green glitter or even a bit of flakes in a tinted green base that has flashes of gold.  I couldn't even capture the beauty in pictures but it is stunning!  The formula was rather thin so I used three thin coats for full opacity, with just two I could definitely see visible nail line.

Above:  3 coats of Water You Waiting For

Water You Waiting For is a mix of multiple sized glitters in blue and green in a dark blue jelly base.  There is a lot of glitter in here so you can definitely reach full opacity.  This is a top coat eater, I used two coats of top coat in the pictures above to make a smooth finish.  The formula was a bit thick so three thin coats worked well for full opacity.

Above:  2 coats of Surreal Appeal

Surreal Appeal is a beautiful coral/pink creme.  It's almost bordering on neon in real life and is slightly more orange leaning than I could get in the picture.  The formula was a bit thick but two thin coats gave full opacity.

Above:  1 coat of Whirled Away over 2 coats of Surreal Appeal

I was super excited for Whirled Away when I first saw it!  Whirled Away is a clear base with black bar glitter and hexagonal glitter interspersed with large white hexagonal glitter.  Unfortunately, this polish was not that easy to work with.  I had to work to fish out the glitters and they tended to clump together. It's a cool polish if you're willing to work for it a bit.

Above:  2 coats of Escaping Reality

Escaping Reality is a HOT pink creme!  This color definitely falls into the realm of neon.  The really cool thing about this polish is that it dries to an almost rubberized finished like the Illamasqua rubber polishes.  You can put a topcoat on for a shiny effect but I love it like this!  The formula was a bit thick on this one so two thin coats works best for full opacity and minimal dragging!

Above:  2 coats of Igniting Love

Igniting Love is a BRIGHT red creme with bits of pink undertones to it.  This is pretty close to a neon red if that color existed!  The formula on this was the best of the cremes, two coats for full opacity and easy to use.

Above:  2 coats of Hanging In The Balance

Unfortunately this shade looks a bit washed out in my pictures but it is amazing in person, a true bright blue!  I love how vibrant it is!  The formula was good, opaque in two coats and fairly easy to use.

Above:  3 coats of Creative Fantasy

I have a love/hate relationship with Creative Fantasy.  I absolutely LOVE the bright royal purple creme shade and I love the slightly rubberized finish.  However, the formula looked streaky and even with three coats, you can see bald spots by the cuticle.

Above:  2 coats of Bend Over Backwards

Bend Over Backwards is a gorgeous deep red shimmer with lots of orange in it.  This is a unique take on a classic red and I really like it!  The formula was really good on this one, opaque in 2 coats and easy to use.

 Above:  2 coats of It's A Trap-Eze!

It's A Trap-Eze! is a very light purple milky jelly base that's full of multicolored glitter in different sizes.    It's like every jelly sandwich I've ever made without the hassle of all the layers!  It's really gorgeous but requires lots of top coat.  The formula was a bit thick on this one but if you let it dry between layers, 2 layers makes it basically opaque.

Above:  1 coat of Get Carried Away over 1 coat of Finger Paints Black Expressionism

The formula on Get Carried Away frustrated me so I thought it was best to show one coat of it over Finger Paints Black Expressionism.  Get Carried Away is a black jelly full of silver and pink hexagonal glitter and black bar glitter.  This formula was thick and clumpy and definitely would need some nail polish thinner.

All in all, I can appreciate what China Glaze was doing with this collection, but some of the formulas need to be tweaked a bit.  I love the combination of glass fleck, glitter, rubberized and creme polishes in this collection and some of them are truly gorgeous.  This collection's official release date is December 1st but I've heard it's been popping up in stores already!

What did you think of these polishes?  Must have?  Any Dupes?

NO H8 - A Purple Manicure In Honor of Eradicating Hate

Good morning my fellow lacquered lovers!  Happy Thursday!  I'm so sorry about the lack of posting this week but between the hurricane and catching up on everything in life, I've been a bit busy!  Today's post is something very special to me that I want to share with you.  We all know that bullying has always been a problem, but now, with the internet, cyber bullying takes it to a whole new level.  People think that because they are behind a computer screen, it gives them the "right" to say whatever they want, regardless of the consequences, because they don't have to face up to them the way they do in real life.  People can say "sticks and stones" and that they are "just" words but the truth is, when it's directed at you, those words hurt.  It's time we make a stand, and the nail polish and beauty blogger community has come together to do purple manicures to bring attention to the cause.  Now, without further ado, on to the polish!

I decided to do a jelly sandwich!  I used Nfu-Oh 28 and Lush Lacquer Salt N Pepa for this manicure.  Purple is the color behind the anti bullying movement so I figured this was a fun way to show it off!  Here is a little more information behind this movement:

Bullying is not funny. It is not cool. It is not right. And more importantly, it is not okay.
Most of us are, thankfully, residents of countries that support tolerance and many of our families have settled in these places simply for that reason. Generations later, it is our responsibility to perpetuate that message of tolerance across our new social platforms, including the internet.

As members of the nail polish blogging community, we all share a love of beauty, color, and lacquer. Other than that, we are remarkably different: from our race to our religion to our hair color...even to our polish application techniques. To marginalize anyone because of those differences is completely unacceptable and today I take a stand against that. I refuse to allow other people's view of "normal" dictate how I behave, believe, and blog.

In solidarity with a multitude of bloggers linked below, my purple manicure represents my proud commitment to the No H8 movement. Today, November 8, I dedicate my post to ending bullying of any kind and to encouraging diversity and imperfection among our colorful community.

Thanks for taking the time to read and feel free to leave any comments below!  If you've ever been a victim of bullying or cyber bullying, you know how much it can hurt so feel free to join in and take a pledge with us to stop bullying.

OPI Skyfall Collection for Holiday 2012 Swatches and Review!

Good afternoon my fellow lacquered lovers!  Happy Sunday to you all!  I am so happy today that my apartment (and much of NYC) officially has our power, heat and water back!  I hope everyone still dealing with the after effects of Hurricane Sandy is doing ok as well!  Today, I have something I've been very excited about to show you:

The long awaited OPI Skyfall Collection for Holiday 2012!  I am a huge James Bond fan, my dad always loved the movies so I've seen them all!  I was so excited when I heard this collection would all be named after James Bond movies!  (For the record, my favorite bond is Sean Connery.)  Now, without further ado, on to the polishes!

Above:  2 coats of Casino Royale

First up is Casino Royale (which was the first James Bond movie ever made).  This polish is a deep, vampy plum creme.  These kinds of colors are perfect for Fall and Winter when you want a deep color but don't want it to be blackened!  The formula was good, opaque in 2 coats and lots of pigment.

Above:  2 coats of Die Another Day

OPI really knows how to do reds well!  Die Another Day is a gorgeous orange leaning red shimmer.  It almost seems like there is a bit of gold shimmer to it!  This polish is warm and rich for the holiday season.  The formula was great, almost a one coater but 2 coats are needed for full opacity!

Above:  2 coats of Goldeneye

Goldeneye is a really special polish.  It's like a cross between a flake, a glitter and a glass fleck.  The base of Goldeneye is a bright gold but you can see hints of yellow gold, darker gold and even a bit of bronze in the macro shot.  I love how sparkly and vibrant this is without being too in your face!  The Formula was good, two coats made it perfectly opaque, just be careful of dragging the polish a bit!

Above:  2 coats of Live and Let Die

Live and Let Die was a surprise favorite of mine!  The base is a deep, almost blackened green that's full of light green and gold small glitter particles.  It's gorgeous!  I love the combination of the dark polish with the tiny glitters!  The formula was great, it really was a 1 coater but I added a second for good measure.

 Above:  2 coats of Moonraker

Oh Moonraker.  You were disappointing.  I'm not a frost fan to begin with and this silver frost is a streaky mess.  Then it dries to an almost matte finish and even with top coat, it showed every imperfection in each of my nails!  The formula was thick and not easy to work with.

Above:  3 coats of On Her Majesty's Secret Service

On Her Majesty's Secret Service is one of those really fun, complex colors like Zoya Fei Fei that seems like it's made up of a bunch of different particles rather than a smooth polish.  This polish is a grey leaning blue base full of particles in silver, blue, gold, green and even a tiny hint of pink.  I love how the light changes how it looks!  It's just stunning!  The formula on this was thin so I used 3 coats for full opacity.

Above:  2 coats of Skyfall

Skyfall is a rich maroon cream polish.  Another great staple shade to have for Fall and Winter when you want something classic like a red but don't want it to be bright!  The formula was good, opaque in 2 coats and easy to work with.

Above:  1 coat of The Living Daylights over Casino Royale

The Living Daylights is a glitter top coat.  It consists of a light teal, gold, silver and copper hexagonal glitters in a clear base.  I honestly didn't think I'd like this combination of colors together but it works!  Kind of odd for a Holiday collection but I'm ok with that!  There was a lot of glitter in this so it was easy to get good distribution in 1 coat.

Above:  2 coats of The Spy Who Loved Me

The Spy Who Loved Me is another one of the reds that OPI just excels at!  The Spy Who Loved Me is a bright red shimmer that's full of gold particles as well.  It's festive and fun!  The formula was great, opaque in two coats and just beautiful!

Above:  3 coats of The World is Not Enough

The World Is Not Enough is the sister to On Her Majesty's Secret Service.  Pictures really don't do these polishes justice because they are so complex!  The World is Not Enough has a brownish base with some pink, silver, gold and brown particles.  It's truly beautiful in person!  The formula was a bit thin so I used 3 coats for full opacity.

Above:  2 coats of Tomorrow Never Dies

Tomorrow Never Dies just would not photograph properly for me so I apologize.  This polish is a vibrant purple full of blue shimmer but my camera only picked up the blue!  The formula was great, opaque in 2 coats and I love how glow-y it looks in person!

Above:  2 coats of You Only Live Twice

Last but not least is You Only Live Twice is a beautiful bright fuchsia polish full of golden and pink flecks!  I'm not normally a pink girl but this is vibrant and gorgeous!  The formula was great, opaque in 2 coats!

All in all, this is a strong Holiday collection from OPI!  I love the unexpected shades like purples and blues in a Holiday collection and the red shimmers were just perfection!  I'm sure there are a lot of dupes out there for the reds and pinks of this collection but for those who aren't polish hoarders like me, you can find some real beauties in here!  The OPI Skyfall Collection should be available now for $8.50 per bottle.

What did you think of these polishes?  Must have?  Any Dupes?

Hurricane Sandy

Good evening my fellow Lacquered Lover! Happy Friday! Just a quick note of thanks tonight. Many of my amazing readers, knowing I live in New York City, have reached out to me in the last few days to see if I was ok in the aftermath of the storm. My apartment lost power Monday night as did much of Manhattan and by Wednesday we no longer had heat or water left. I'm very fortunate that I was able to leave the city by Thursday afternoon. So many people are in far worse situations and my hearts go out to them.

So, I just wanted to say thanks! The outpouring of love I received from you, the amazing readers on my blog really warmed my heart. Fellow New Yorkers have offered help, even ones I've never met, people I've never even interacted with emailed or contacted me through social media and it truly humbles and amazes me. You guys are truly incredible and its an honor to be able to share my love of nail polish with you all and the support you guys give me in return is something I never imagined but appreciate more than I can say. I hope you are all safe and I will be back to regular posting as soon as I can!
