BB Couture 6 Shades of Grey Collection Swatches and Review!

Good afternoon my fellow lacquered lovers!  Happy Tuesday to you all!  I'm very excited about today's post!  I discovered the brand BB Couture a few months ago and fell in love with their unique style (I love the men's and women's lines) and great formula.  Today, I have their newest collection, 6 Shades of Grey, which will be released soon to show you!

I love grey nail polish as a great neutral alternative to a nude so I was really excited to hear that this would be all greys!  Now, without further ado, on to the polish!

Above:  2 coats of Briquette

Up first is Briquette, one of the darker shades from this collection.  Briquette is a dark grey with almost olive green undertones and a hint of a hidden shimmer that pops out in direct light (it's the second from the left in the picture with the flash on the top.)  I love how dark this is and can't wait to wear it this Fall!  The formula was great, opaque in two coats and very easy to use.

Above:  2 coats of Grey Matter

Grey Matter might be my favorite from this collection!  Grey Matter is the exact color of cement with larger particles of silver shimmer in it that really make it unique.  I love how the shimmer almost looks like glitter but not quite that gives it this overall shiny, sparkly look without being too in your face.  This is a fantastic grey for all year round!  The formula was great, opaque in two coats and a great consistency.

Above:  2 coats of Puce

Puce is another of the darker shades and this one has a lot of brown and maybe even a tad bit of purple to it!  Let's call it "raisin."  It also has the hidden shimmer to it with the larger pieces of shimmer in a slightly lighter shade that gives it a really unique finish.  (In the first picture, it's the one all the way on the right) I love these hidden shimmers!  The formula was good, opaque in two coats although a bit on the thin side so a third coat might be used to really intensify the color.

Above:  2 coats of Shaded Ash

Shaded Ash is another super unique color.  This grey has a ton of green in it.  It kind of reminds me of an army green or part of camouflage!  I love it!  There is a hint of fine hidden shimmer to this that wasn't that visible on the nail unless it's in direct light.  The formula was great, opaque in two coats and very easy to use!

Above:  2 coats of Smoke

Smoke is the lightest of the shades in this collection and is an awesome neutral light grey with a silvery shimmer to it.  I love it!  This is great when you need something more toned down but don't want to be boring.  I love shades like this, especially when I get tired of vampy shades in the winter but can't do a super bright!  The formula was great on this, perfect coverage in two coats!

Above:  2 coats of Starry Starry Taupe

Last but not least is Starry Starry Taupe which is, you guessed it, taupe!  This is a very brown leaning grey but I love how the light large shimmer particles give this color a lot of depth!  The formula was really good, opaque in two coats and in the light, the shimmer is gorgeous!

All in all, I really liked this collection!  I love all the interesting takes on grey polish and the hidden shimmer in these really pops in the light.  I love when a polish can look professional and neutral but has a little something extra to it!  The Six Shades of Grey collection should be released soon on BB Couture's website

BB Couture Men On Film Collection for Spring 2012 Swatches and Review!

Good morning my fellow lacquered lovers!  Happy Thursday!  I'm posting early today because I have what is hopefully my last dentist appointment in a couple of hours!  I'm super excited about this post today because it involves a few of my favorite things:  mattes, dark polishes and movie themes!  I showed you the BB Couture Girls on Film collection a few months ago and this is the male counterpart to that.  Now, without further ado, on to the polish!

Above:  2 coats of Commando

First up is Commando, the iconic "guy" film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.  Yes, I had to look up how to spell his last name.  The nail polish Commando is a gorgeous dark hunter green creme.  This color just screams "camo" to me!  I love how deep it is but that it's still clearly a green.  The finish on this one is slightly matte, although not as much as some of the others in this collection.  It's a great Fall color!

Above:  2 coats of Dark Passage

Dark Passage is named after the iconic Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall film (I only know this from seeing it in a film class in college!)  The film is from 1947 but is pretty awesome!  The polish Dark Passage does not disappoint.  Dark Passage is a gorgeous chocolate brown matte polish that's packed with shimmer.  Since it's so shimmery, it looks more like a satin finish rather than a true matte but either way, it's stunning!  The formula was great on this, fully opaque in two coats and just a really rich color.

Above:  2 coats of Full Metal Jacket

Full Metal Jacket is named after one of the most insane Vietnam movies of all time directed by one of the most insane directors of all time, Stanley Kubrik.  The nail polish Full Metal Jacket is a really cool black matte polish that's packed with silver shimmer so it gives off the appearance of being dark grey.  I love this polish!  The formula was great and the satiny effect is amazing!

Above:  2 coats of Key Largo

I'm a bit embarrassed but I had to look this movie up!  Key Largo is a 1948 film noir piece that also starred Bogart and Bacall.  The nail polish Key Largo is a gorgeous shimmery light blue packed with lots of silver.  I can honestly say I don't know a dupe for this!  The satiny effect on this one is excellent and this is probably my favorite from this collection!

Above:  2 coats of Road Warrior

Road Warrior is named after Mad Max 2 starring Mel Gibson.  He's pretty icky in my opinion but luckily the nail polish is not!  Road Warrior is a jet black matte.  The cool thing about this is that the finish looks almost waxy like the Illamasqua Rubber finish polishes!  I LOVE it!  It's such an awesome take on a black polish!  The formula was almost opaque in 1 coat but I used a second for good measure.

Above:  2 coats of Top Gun

I don't care how crazy Tom Cruise gets, Top Gun will always be one of my all time favorite guilty pleasure movies!  The polish Top Gun is a gorgeous navy blue with subtle shimmer.  The finish on this one is a matte and is really pretty, great for a dark but not black look!

All in all, I loved this collection!  The formula on all of them were great, opaque in 2 coats and really rich looking.  I love the matte finishes and how the shimmers on a lot of them really give the polish depth!  BB Couture is sold on their website and I really recommend them!  Some of them aren't the most unique but a few, like Key Largo and Dark Passage are really special!

What do you think of this collection? Any must haves? Any dupes?

BB Couture Classic Hollywood Divas Collection Swatches and Review!

Good afternoon my fellow lacquered lovers!  I hope you are all having a wonderful start to April!  Today, I have a new collection from BB Couture to share with you all!

The Classic Hollywood Divas Collection consists of 8 colors, 4 cremes and 4 jellies, all with small found silver glitter and holographic bar glitter!  It's a really interesting, different and unique collection and I've never really tried anything like this!  Now, without further ado, on to the polish!

Above:  2 coats of Audrey

First up is Audrey, named after the gorgeous Audrey Hepburn.  I can't help but think of Tiffany's blue when I think of her but BB Couture went in another direction!  Audrey is a canary yellow creme polish that's full of the small silver round glitter and holographic bar glitter.  Because it's a creamy polish, the holographic value gets a bit lost and it looks more like a silver but it's really unique!  I like the shade of yellow a lot because it's not too sever!  The formula was good, opaque in 2 coats!

Above:  2 coats of Bette

Next up is Bette named for the amazing Bette Davis.  I love her and I love this polish!  Bette is a gorgeous bright green creme packed with the glitters.  There is also the tiniest hint of a shimmer to Bette!  Like Audrey, the bar glitter looks more silver here.  This polish reminds me of the fake grass in Easter baskets!  The formula was good, opaque in two coats and easy to use!

Above:  2 coats of Claudette

Claudette is named after Claudette Colbert who starred in the amazing movie, It Happened One Night.  The polish Claudette is a gorgeous medium ocean looking blue jelly that's packed with the small silver glitter and holographic bar glitter.  As you can see, much more of the glitter shows in the jelly bases!  I really love Claudette, such an interesting polish!  The formula was good, a tad bit thicker than the cremes but if you wait a few minutes between coats, it works just fine!

Above:  2 coats of Elizabeth

Elizabeth is named after the gorgeous Elizabeth Taylor with her violet eyes so it makes sense that Elizabeth the polish is purple!  Elizabeth is a red toned purple jelly filled with the same glitters as the others.  I really love how the jelly makes the glitters look like they are floating!  The formula was the same as the other jelly polishes in this collection, a tad bit thick, but I love the look of this and waiting a few minutes to do a second coat doesn't bother me.

Above:  2 coats of Lucille

Lucille is named after the hilarious and amazing Lucille Ball.  The coral color is close enough to orange to mirror her famous hair!  Lucille is a coral creamy base with the same glitters as the rest.  Like the other creamier polishes, the bar glitter looks more silver but has a cool muted look with the different layers of polish.  The formula was opaque in two coats and easy to work with!

Above:  2 coats of Marilyn

Marilyn is named for the fabulous Marilyn Monroe, one of the most famous sex symbols of all time.  It's fitting then that Marilyn is a BRIGHT shimmery pink with the same glitters as the rest.  It seems that Marilyn is the least densely packed of this collection but with the shimmer, it works.  The formula was great, opaque in two coats and easy to use, not to mention this might be a perfect pedicure color for the summer!

Above:  2 coats of Raquel

Raquel is named after the beautiful Raquel Welch.  The polish Raquel is a deep brown jelly with lots of red to it with the same glitters as the others.  I actually really love this shade!  You don't see a brown jelly too often and add in the small glitters and bar glitters and you really have something unique!  This polish had the same consistency as the other jelly's and is worth the extra work!

Above:  2 coats of Vivian

Last but most certainly not least is Vivian, named after Vivian Leigh of Gone With The Wind fame.  I am in love with this color!  Vivian is an inky black/blue jelly with way more glitter than all the other colors!  I absolutely adore how multi dimensional this looks and how the silver glitter takes on a blue hue from the jelly.  The formula was a bit thick but totally worth the extra effort!

All in all, this is by far one of the most unique collections I've seen in my time blogging!  I love the combination of jellies and cremes but that they are uniform in the glitters used!  And usually I'm not a bar glitter fan because it can look "hairy" but it's sparse enough here to just have a really cool sparse effect!  The jellies are a bit thick but with a few extra minutes to let the first coat dry, they are easy enough to use.  For me, the jellies are the must haves!  BB Couture is sold through their website for $9.95 each!
