Sally Hansen Insta Gel Starter Kit with Bonus Check Swatches and Review!

Good morning my fellow lacquered lovers!  Happy Tuesday to you all!  I hope you are all having a lovely week so far!  Today, I have a really cool post for you.  You have seen many of the Sally Hansen Salon Effects here on my blog because I love how cute they are and how long they last.  Today, I have their new gel strips!  They recently released starter kits with both gel polish and gel strips that come with a small led light, a gel top coat and a gel polish or strips.  Now, without further ado, on to the polish!

These pictures were all taken FIVE days after application and they are still perfect!  Here's how the gel strips work.  You start off by applying them the same way you would the normal Salon Effects.  I personally like to use base coat beneath them but you don't have to.  You choose the strip that best fits your nail, smooth the strip down and file off the excess.  Since my nails are small, I was able to get away with only using one of the two packets it comes with.  Then, you will go one nail at a time and put on the gel top coat that comes in each packet and cure the nails one at a time under the LED lamp that comes with the starter kit.

You just plug the lamp into the wall and put one nail under the light and press the button at the top.  The lamp is timed to cure the gel for each finger.  Once the light goes off, put the gel top coat on the next nail and repeat!  Once you are all finished (which takes less than 10 minutes) then use the nail cleanser pads that come in each box and wipe off any sticky residue that's left on the nail and voila!  You have a gorgeous, shiny gel manicure!

The starter set will cost you less than $30 and will come with the led lamp, cuticle sticks, gel top coat, nail cleanser pads, nail file and buffer as well as either one bottle of the gel nail polish or the gel nail strips, whichever you like.  Any additional colors of polish or patterns of gel strips will cost you around $12-$13 depending on where you buy it.  They have a ton of different colors and designs including the hounds tooth above, glitter, lace and more!  Plus they really did hold up well!  5 days and not a chip or tip wear in sight!  These are definitely great when you don't have time to change your polish or when you're going on vacation!  Here's one more picture that I had put on Instagram holding my dog's paw with them:

All in all, I would recommend these.  They were super easy to use, removal was pretty easy with the foil method and they do actually last longer than even the normal Salon Effects.  The $29 for the starter kit is a bit high but if you like the colors it comes with, then it's definitely worth it.  Plus I love that you can reuse the light every time and just have to get different strips or polish!  The Sally Hansen Insta gel Polish and Strips kits are now available where Sally Hansen is sold.

What did you think of this set? Must have?

Sally Hansen Salon Effects in Stud-io Time Swatches and Review!

Good morning my fellow lacquered lovers!  Happy Friday to you all!  Ever notice how when you have a shortened work week, it seems to take longer to end?  Anyway, this morning I have something really cool to show you.  This manicure was the one I got the most comments on recently and given how crazy my nails usually look, that says a lot!  Sally Hansen released a line of their Salon Effects nail strips with Avril Lavigne last month with several new patterns!  I love these strips (I have different ones on my toes right now but not to worry, I won't show foot pics) so let's see what this awesome design looks like!  Now, without further ado, on to the polish!

I'm seriously in love with these strips!  Stud-io Time actually looks three dimensional!  I could not stop staring at my nails when these were on.  I'm a big fan of the nail strips when you don't have time to let your nails dry because these require no drying time at all.  These were some of the easiest ones to apply that I've tried, I didn't have to wrestle with them at all.  As you can see on my thumb they got a bit wrinkled since my nails curve a lot but thanks to the pattern, you really couldn't tell in real life!  And, since my nails are small, I got away with only using one packet so I can use them again!

(one more picture above from my Instagram of the awesome strips with my awesome Urban Outfitters ring!)

All in all, I LOVED this Salon Effect!  Everyone was commenting on my nails, they were even distracting me, and they really have a cool effect that you just can't get with nail polish!  The ease that these went on along with the awesome design made these a winner to me!  Sally Hansen Salon Effects are generally around $10 a box and can last up to 2 weeks on your nails!  These are out now but they are limited edition so grab them while you can!

What do you think of this effect?  Do you like the nail strips?

Sally Hansen Salon Effects in Misbehaved

This is actually my third review of Sally Hanson Salon Effects. You can read my reviews of Kitty Kitty here and my review of Girl Flower here. Todays post is about Misbehaved, which was actually the first Salon Effects pattern that caught my eye.

Misbehaved is a champagne/gold background with a black fishnet design over it. I was going to the beach last weekend when I tried this so I figured that it would match a lot of my outfits plus it would last longer than my normal manicures!

I wish I had taken pictures in the sun but I was in a rush to leave my apartment the morning after I put these nail polish strips on. The gold colors really shone through and gave my nails an amazing sheen. On the ferry to Fire Island I had three women ask me about my nails! They all loved it and wanted to know how I did it and were so excited when I told them that they could buy it in a drugstore!

The only issues I had with this application were that I had a slight fold/crease on two of my nails however part of that was my fault for not warming the strips up before applying them to make them more flexible. As much as I really wanted to do the 10 day challenge for you all, alas I wanted to swatch other polishes so I only made it 4 days. However in those four days my nails still looked perfect with just a tiny bit of tipwear that was easily fixed by filing my nails! Now, since I never really gave tips on how to do these properly, here are Carly's tips for putting on Sally Hansen Salon Effects:

* Make sure you read the directions that come in the box before you start.
* Use nail polish remover to clean off your nails, file your nails to your desired length and shape and wash your hands before you start so everything is ready to go.
* Only open one foil packet at a time (8 strips) because if you have smaller hands like me, you can get away with only using one packet and reusing the other strips another time!
* Warm the strip in your hand before you apply it, it will make it stick to your nails easier and be more flexible so you don't get bumps or folds.
* If you are choosing between two sizes, pick the larger and use the cuticle stick to get rid of the excess polish.
* Don't try to rip the excess polish off the top of your nail. Use a scissor and leave a bit to fold over the tip of your nail and then use the file to file it down. This reduced tip wear.

All in all, I love Sally Hansen Salon Effects. For someone like me who can't do nail art they are amazing! I have yet to try any of the neons or glitters (but I will soon) and I just love all the options. Plus they are amazing for when you go on vacation and can't do your nails for any length of time or if you're not afflicted with NADD (Nail Attention Deficit Disorder) like I am.

What do you all think of the Salon Effects? Have you tried any? Any prints in particular you'd like to try?
