Good afternoon my fellow lacquered lovers! Happy Sunday to you all! I am so happy today that my apartment (and much of NYC) officially has our power, heat and water back! I hope everyone still dealing with the after effects of Hurricane Sandy is doing ok as well! Today, I have something I've been very excited about to show you:
The long awaited OPI Skyfall Collection for Holiday 2012! I am a huge James Bond fan, my dad always loved the movies so I've seen them all! I was so excited when I heard this collection would all be named after James Bond movies! (For the record, my favorite bond is Sean Connery.) Now, without further ado, on to the polishes!
Above: 2 coats of Casino Royale
First up is Casino Royale (which was the first James Bond movie ever made). This polish is a deep, vampy plum creme. These kinds of colors are perfect for Fall and Winter when you want a deep color but don't want it to be blackened! The formula was good, opaque in 2 coats and lots of pigment.
Above: 2 coats of Die Another Day
OPI really knows how to do reds well! Die Another Day is a gorgeous orange leaning red shimmer. It almost seems like there is a bit of gold shimmer to it! This polish is warm and rich for the holiday season. The formula was great, almost a one coater but 2 coats are needed for full opacity!
Above: 2 coats of Goldeneye
Goldeneye is a really special polish. It's like a cross between a flake, a glitter and a glass fleck. The base of Goldeneye is a bright gold but you can see hints of yellow gold, darker gold and even a bit of bronze in the macro shot. I love how sparkly and vibrant this is without being too in your face! The Formula was good, two coats made it perfectly opaque, just be careful of dragging the polish a bit!
Above: 2 coats of Live and Let Die
Live and Let Die was a surprise favorite of mine! The base is a deep, almost blackened green that's full of light green and gold small glitter particles. It's gorgeous! I love the combination of the dark polish with the tiny glitters! The formula was great, it really was a 1 coater but I added a second for good measure.
Above: 2 coats of Moonraker
Oh Moonraker. You were disappointing. I'm not a frost fan to begin with and this silver frost is a streaky mess. Then it dries to an almost matte finish and even with top coat, it showed every imperfection in each of my nails! The formula was thick and not easy to work with.
Above: 3 coats of On Her Majesty's Secret Service
On Her Majesty's Secret Service is one of those really fun, complex colors like Zoya Fei Fei that seems like it's made up of a bunch of different particles rather than a smooth polish. This polish is a grey leaning blue base full of particles in silver, blue, gold, green and even a tiny hint of pink. I love how the light changes how it looks! It's just stunning! The formula on this was thin so I used 3 coats for full opacity.
Above: 2 coats of Skyfall
Skyfall is a rich maroon cream polish. Another great staple shade to have for Fall and Winter when you want something classic like a red but don't want it to be bright! The formula was good, opaque in 2 coats and easy to work with.
Above: 1 coat of The Living Daylights over Casino Royale
The Living Daylights is a glitter top coat. It consists of a light teal, gold, silver and copper hexagonal glitters in a clear base. I honestly didn't think I'd like this combination of colors together but it works! Kind of odd for a Holiday collection but I'm ok with that! There was a lot of glitter in this so it was easy to get good distribution in 1 coat.
Above: 2 coats of The Spy Who Loved Me
The Spy Who Loved Me is another one of the reds that OPI just excels at! The Spy Who Loved Me is a bright red shimmer that's full of gold particles as well. It's festive and fun! The formula was great, opaque in two coats and just beautiful!
Above: 3 coats of The World is Not Enough
The World Is Not Enough is the sister to On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Pictures really don't do these polishes justice because they are so complex! The World is Not Enough has a brownish base with some pink, silver, gold and brown particles. It's truly beautiful in person! The formula was a bit thin so I used 3 coats for full opacity.
Above: 2 coats of Tomorrow Never Dies
Tomorrow Never Dies just would not photograph properly for me so I apologize. This polish is a vibrant purple full of blue shimmer but my camera only picked up the blue! The formula was great, opaque in 2 coats and I love how glow-y it looks in person!
Above: 2 coats of You Only Live Twice
Last but not least is You Only Live Twice is a beautiful bright fuchsia polish full of golden and pink flecks! I'm not normally a pink girl but this is vibrant and gorgeous! The formula was great, opaque in 2 coats!
All in all, this is a strong Holiday collection from OPI! I love the unexpected shades like purples and blues in a Holiday collection and the red shimmers were just perfection! I'm sure there are a lot of dupes out there for the reds and pinks of this collection but for those who aren't polish hoarders like me, you can find some real beauties in here! The OPI Skyfall Collection should be available now for $8.50 per bottle.
What did you think of these polishes? Must have? Any Dupes?
