Deborah Lippmann Ray of Light Swatches and Review!

Good afternoon my fellow lacquered lovers!  I have a real treat for you this afternoon!  Many of you know of my love for Deborah Lippmann nail polishes and I have another for you today!  I remember seeing teaser photos some time back of a dark blue polish packed with flakies that she was going to release this spring and I got super excited.  Blue, flakies and Lippmann are some of my favorite things!  So obviously when I saw it go up on her site last week, I HAD to order it immediately!  Now, without further ado, on to the polish!

Ray of Light is a gorgeous indigo jelly polish that's packed with mainly copper/reddish flakies.  Some really neat things about this polish.  First, it's a dark indigo jelly!  And it becomes kind of blurple (aka blue and purple) in the sunlight.  I honestly don't remember the last time I had a polish that changed this much from indoors to outdoors!  The outdoor picture was taken on my lunch break with my iPhone today and I was amazed how much the color changed!  The next really neat thing about this is that the flakies shift colors!  Now the shift is not as intense as some flakies, but there are definitely some flashes of green in there!  It's also cool since the flakies are in the jelly that it gets a sort of layered effect that you don't get with just one coat of a flakie top coat on top of a polish!  The formula is a tad thick on this so I waited a little bit between coats so it didn't just drag around but the final effect is stunning!

I can honestly say that I don't know any dupes of this polish.  Sure, you could try a deep blurple and put some flakies on it to see if it's close but it won't get that jelly, squishy effect that Ray of Light has.  I really liked this polish when I first put it on last night but it wasn't until I saw it in the sun today that I truly fell in love with it!  Ray of Light was on Deborah Lippmann's website but I believe it's out of stock at the moment but hopefully it will show up on all the major websites soon!

What do you think of this polish?  Is it a must have?  Any dupes?

  1. I do love the color, but just can't bring myself to pay the price for a Lippmann. I've gotten one other really expensive polish and wasn't impressed with it. Not anxious to try another. Perhaps Revlon will come up with a dupe? :)

    1. Some brands definitely are not worth the money but Lippmann always has been for me. That being said, you might not want to have this be your next expensive purchase since the formula is rather thick. That all being said, her polishes are amazing! :)

  2. I wish I had waited to see swatches before buying this one. It's my first DL and I'm kinda disappointed. I wish it was brighter or more purple. It doesn't feel like a spring/summer polish to me at all. I don't think the promo photo is accurate. I expected a brighter more purple indigo with gold glitter flecks... not a practically navy with run of the mill flakies. =\

Wonder if there is anything I can layer it over to brighten it up?

    1. Maybe try it over a white base, that might help or a baby blue. Best of luck!
